Transporting A Tanning Bed

Dylan Thomas in Porto San Giorgio

Finally an evening dedicated to Dylan Thomas, and finally in Italy. As part of the summer cultural festival " from town to town" organized by the Municipality of Porto San Giorgio , in Marche, one of the most beautiful villas Sangiorgesi host scholars and fans of Thomas, for a night of poetry, and beyond. During the evening, which I will speak also about the relationship of Thomas with Italy, its translation copyright (think of the translations of works by big-rewriting poets such as Montale and Bigongiari) and this blog is dedicated to him, there is also room for bilingual readings of his poems and listening to radio recordings of his original voice. The evening will conclude with a concert of classical guitar Fernando Espi.

Very interesting, in my opinion, the choice of the combination of readings, recordings, given the importance of the vocal and interpretive work of Thomas, on which we focused on other occasions already . To be fully appreciated in its musical quality as well as aesthetic language, the poetry of Thomas needs to be recited aloud. The New York Times called it "both a speaker and a maker of poetry." Thomas manages to invest the word of a power that transcends the written page, as noted by Giorgio Melchiori, who sees in his work "a try, fully successful, to bring the mass of spectators to the sense of taste and sound of the language English (albeit with a Welsh accent), the importance of the rhythm of discourse, and the charge of hypnotic words themselves, regardless of their meaning. " Thomas gave it to the language the power to break the mental associations and language traditional forms of research unexplored, so that a single word acquires multiple meanings on different levels, connected to each other. The pure referentiality disappears, and the world of language becomes world unto itself, in which images and words are defined through an internal network to the text of links and associations. The world is as "transformed" into words.
